Belgrade (Serbia), May 5, 2020 (SeeNews)-Trade and Tourism Minister Rasim Ljajic stated that Serbia expects its tourism industry to suffer losses of approximately 300 million euros ($327.3 million) from the coronavirus crisis .
The hotel operator estimates that the loss caused by the coronavirus crisis is 230 million euros, while the loss for travel agencies will reach 500,000 to 70 million euros.
Ljajic said that more accurate data on the losses suffered by the tourism industry will be available at the end of this year.
He added that Fliggy, the online travel agency platform of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, plans to launch a campaign on May 15 to promote Serbia as a tourist destination in the Chinese market.
According to data from the Serbian Statistics Agency, due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis, the number of foreign tourists visiting Serbia in March fell 65.8% year-on-year to 38,317. In January and February, the number of registered foreign tourists increased by 28.7% and 13.5% respectively over the same period last year.
